Information Services
 
Information Services are provided by a centralized AHEC Information Services in partnership with the Library and Information Services Department at the Medical University of South Carolina. In addition, Mid-Carolina AHEC, Inc. maintains a library of Network of Continuing Medical Education (NCME) videotapes, computer-assisted instruction, and self-study modules. These services and resources are made available for our consortium members, preceptors, and students.
 
Direct connect services provided through AHEC Information Services include:
 
  • Searching databases such as PubMed, MEDLINEplus & MD Consult
  • Textbooks on line which include, but are not limited to:
    • Family Practice Handbook
    • Emergency Medicine
    • Merck Manuals
  • Medical Textbooks by topic
  • Drug information through US Pharmacopeia
  • Biomedical Resources such as:
    • Clinical Medicine
    • Nursing, Dental, Health Care Administration
    • Pharmacy/Drug Information, etc.
  • Practice Guidelines such as:
    • Hospital Infection Program
    • National Guideline Clearinghouse
    • Primary Care Clinical Guidelines
    • Clinical Practice Guidelines
    • NIH Clinical Trial Databases

  • Video conferencing facilities in Lancaster
    • Distance learning
    • Satellite downlinks
    • Meeting coordination
  • Self-study modules on Medical Terminology and Medical/Surgical Nursing
    • These modules may be used to obtain continuing education credit
  • Computer-Assisted Instruction (CAI) titles such as:
    • Critical Care Calculations
    • Body Mechanics
    • Medication Errors
  • Network of Continuing Medical Education (NCME)
