Cheri C. Plyler, Center Director

Cheri received her MBA, with Finance and Marketing majors, from Pfeiffer University Charlotte Campus and her Bachelor of Health Sciences degree, with Administration and Education majors, from the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC). Prior to joining AHEC in 1994, Cheri was a Nuclear Medicine Technologist at Springs Memorial Hospital. Regionally, she works with a diverse group of partners to support the core service areas of continuing professional development, health professions student clinical experiences and health careers exploration. Statewide, Cheri works with academic centers, hospitals, clinical partners and community leaders to support infrastructure development necessary for recruitment and retention. At the Federal level, she has served on the National AHEC Organization’s Education and Model AHEC grant review committees.

Whitney Amaker, BS, Health Careers Coordinator

Whitney Rojas Amaker joined Mid-Carolina AHEC in August 2017 as the Health Careers Coordinator. Whitney received her Bachelor’s of Science in Family and Consumer Science with a Concentration in Adolescent Studies from Winthrop University in Rock Hill, SC. Whitney has a passion for working with children. She looks forward to working with different students and communities throughout their mission in pursuing a career in healthcare. We are excited to have Whitney as part of our AHEC team!

Sara Newton, MEd, Health Professions Student Coordinator

Sara served as the Director of Utilization Management at a local behavioral health facility. Her advocacy and strong desire to help others will provide a solid foundation for the complex facilitation of roles and resources in this position. Sara is a graduate of Winthrop University with a Masters of Education in Counseling and Development in Clinical Mental Health Counseling.

Rebecca Jackson, BSN, RN, Continuing Professional Development Coordinator

Rebecca Jackson BSN, RN received her Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing from the University of South Carolina Upstate in Spartanburg, SC. She has over 14 years experience as a Registered Nurse. She has a background in medical surgical nursing, patient education, critical care nursing, home health and hospice. She is currently a Continuing Professional Development Coordinator with Mid-Carolina, AHEC.

Casey Cato, Health Professions Student Coordinator

Casey joined Mid-Carolina AHEC in March 2019 as a Health Professions Student (HPS) Coordinator. She received her Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies (BAIS) degree with concentration in Early Childhood Education from the University of South Carolina. Prior to joining the AHEC team, Casey taught grades 4K through 2 nd grade for 30 years. She is looking forward to working with the health professions students to help them have a great educational experience in the rural communities.

Pam Harper, A.S., Continuing Professional Development Administrator and CTC Assistant

Pam joined Mid-Carolina AHEC in 1996 as the Course Administrator to provide administrative support for the organization. Pam is an integral part of the Continuing Professional Development team. Her duties also include website administration and management, marketing, database management and analyzing reports for the company.  Pam's duties also includes processing CPR ecards for students and instructors for Mid-Carolina AHEC's Community Training Center.

Katelyn Bailey, BS, Continuing Professional Development Coordinator

Katelyn Bailey, BS earned her bachelor’s degree in biology from the College of Charleston in 2017. In October 2018 she began working at Mid-Carolina AHEC as a continuing professional development coordinator and knew that was where she was meant to be. Katelyn enjoys working closely with the hospital educators to plan classes and provide new and interesting education courses. She hopes to help grow AHEC and expand its reach.  She is a vital part of the CPD team and we enjoy having her bubbly personality in the office!

Kim Roberts, A.S., Office Administrator

Kim has been with Mid-Carolina AHEC since 2000. She has 25 years experience in the accounting field. Kim received her associate degree in accounting from York Technical College in 1992. She manages the operational functions within the office, as well as, administers the accounting functions associated with the financial records.
